Here is an opportunity to Put Your Product Out There

and market it to the ISU community and beyond.

This student competition is intended to encourage innovative minds to:

  1. Follow your passion
  2. Blend your vision with performance
  3. Be a resourceful problem solver
  4. Remain open to new ideas
  5. Demonstrate your skills and knowledge
  6. Persevere

Who Can Compete?

Contestants can be individual students or teams in any major. You can do the project on your own, as part of class or student organization or just a group of friends with an idea to pursue.

What’s In It for ME?

All finalists are invited to display their products at the November 16 Spark Innovation Seminar in Federal Hall Court Room. Winners will have an opportunity to pitch their product for feedback from professional at the Spark Innovation Seminar. The winning products will be marketed and sold for profits through the Executive Express and Tech Express Cafés.

How It Works and Timeline:

Put Your Product Out There is a student-organized competition created by the Tech Express Café management team as part of the ISU President’s Collaboration & Innovation Award, Internal Category 2015. The competition is sponsored by the Tech Express and Executive Express Cafés, the Technology Student Leadership Council, the Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization, and the Business Engagement Center. The Business Engagement Center's Innovation Lab is available to assist with prototypes and preparing product pitches.

Step 1: Register intent by October 1 (extended to October 5)

Register your intent to participate in the Put Your Product Out There Competition using either the online form submission or paper form by October 5, 2016. Additional info will then be provided.

Step 2: Submit product and pitch by October 15

Submit your physical product (prototype) or conceptual representation and a video and transcript of your five-minute pitch by October 15, 2016 to room 215 in the Myers Tech Center, 650 Cherry St. Judging criteria is provided in the Judging Rubric.

Step 3: Judging October 17-28

Submitted products will be judged in three separate rounds:

  1. Round One: Sponsoring Student Organizations Judging (Oct 17-20)
  2. Round Two: Faculty and Staff Voting (Oct 21-25)
  3. Round Three: Public Voting (Oct 25-28)

Step 4: Victors announced October 31

Victors will be announced on October 31 at a reception in Myers Technology Center room 101E, 4:00-6:00 p.m. At the reception prizes will be awarded to the finalists and details about pitching ideas and marketing/selling products for profit at the Cafés will be explained. Several faculty, staff and students will be available to assist students with the next steps.
